About Fur Babies Wholesome Pet Food

Following a long line of formal education in the fields of veterinary medicine, biology, environmental science, and medical laboratory technology, I saw a similar theme appear time and time again.  Connecting the dots among these fields allowed me see a correlation between nutrition, whole food, and health. Not only was I studying and researching the effects of our food system on humans, I was also seeking to improve the quality of life for my fur babies. 

Since working in the veterinary sector professionally, for both domestic and wild animals, then continuing a lifelong job of caring for my fur babies privately, I have seen the gambit of diseases and disorders in animals. Though I have had more kids than I care to admit, (topped at 21 for a while), I was constantly reading and researching about nutrition in pet foods to ensure they had the best there was to offer. Though I was feeding my kids top of the line kibble, canned, and “minimally processed foods,” they were constantly getting sick. We were always at the vet hospital for one ailment or another.  

After returning to college, (multiple times), and receiving education in other fields, the dots continued to connect, with the culprits of ill health being the food, the water and the environment. Very long story short, the food they were eating was directly affecting their (and our) health in a negative way…  Enter the BARF diet: Biologically Appropriate Raw Food; better known as the Bone And Raw Food diet.

I began my kiddos on a commercial raw diet about seven years ago and I swore would never feed anything else.  Each has their own story and outcome, but suffice to say, I did not, and still do not live at the vets anymore.  However, I continued to research pet food and began taking nutrition courses for dogs and cats. I was devastated to learn about the "pet food industry", particularly that of the dry kibble industry. Behind the curtain of the kibble industry is not a pretty scene. Additionally, I learned that even some of the commercial raw foods were not as healthy as they could or should be.

I completed various courses on RAW feeding and pet nutrition, attended seminars, summits, and conferences, and read numerous books such as Feeding Dogs by Dr. Conor Brady, (and many, many others). Afterwards, I began making food for my kiddos and was constantly improving the sourcing of ingredients the more I learned. It is very satisfying knowing that what my kiddos are consuming is whole food; no by-products, no antibiotics, no hormones, no pesticides, and Non-GMO.  I use only pasture raised/finished meats and organs (no by-products or waste), and organic fruits and veggies. I always have an “audience of tasters” eagerly waiting while I am preparing the food, ready to receive the next sample. Among my fur babies are two, twelve-year-old greyhounds who still run and play like youngsters. And, all my cats love the raw, with my eldest being 20!

We opened our doors July 2022 with the hope that we could educate pet owners on the detriments of feeding kibble, of the vast benefits of feeding RAW and with the hope that we could transform other fur babies into the audacious carnivores that they are meant to be. To help fur babies be the happiest, healthiest version of themselves is very rewarding.

We currently offer the full line of Steve' Real Food, frozen raw for dogs and cats, and ten recipes by Fur Babies WPF, available for special order. Variety is the key to a balanced diet over time, just as our fur babies' wild ancestors have done and still do.
